Trash to Treasure (Part 1) ~ Week of 7/28

“For I know what plans I have in mind for you,” says Adonai, “plans for well-being, not for bad things; so that you have a hope and a future.”     Jeremiah 29:11

We took a little diversion from the ATC’s this week, as we thought about how fun it would be to give new life and purpose to what looks like trash.  Inspired by an article in an artsy magazine, we decided to ‘create’ our own little Paint Brush People with some of the brushes in our ‘art-trash’ recycle bin.

Using old brushes and air-dry clay, each artist molded a head, added facial features, and added paint to restyle their character’s hair and lower body, the handle.  Then we wrapped chenille stems with scraps of fabric to make a shirt or blouse and arms. Earrings, feather boas, barbells, saxophones … whatever little doo-dads we managed to collect … each little person is wonderfully unique … like us!!

We’re told in Psalm 139 that God knew us even before He created us!!  He thinks about us all the time, and He wants us to know Him.  He took great pleasure in deciding what color our hair and skin and eyes would be. He knew the exact time we would each be born, and He wants to help us have an abundant, joy-filled life (John 10:10).

Next time we meet we will create a scene from our Paint Brush Person’s life, so be on the lookout for pictures, small tools or toys, maps or brochures, and any other little items that might help you illustrate what your PBP likes to do, or where they might work or play or live.  You also need to decide on a name for your PBP, and try to write a little story or poem about your Person.

Ms. Sharon’s little Person is named Orrin, and mine (Ms. Ann) is named Ferdi-Nand, and we’ll be sharing the stories and poems we wrote about our PBP’s.  We might even create a special place on the blog for all of our PBP’s stories and photos.

Check out the “Paint Brush People” page to see more photos from this week’s class.  Have a blessed, treasure-hunting week!

Random Acts of Art ATC’s ~ Week of 7/21

Posted in Weekly Info on August 1, 2010 by Sharon & Ann

The purpose of this class was to use techniques that we really enjoy, and to include an encouraging message of the love of God. Each card can be left somewhere as a “Random Act of Art” for a stranger to find and hopefully be prompted to smile and remember their Heavenly Father knows them and their needs.

Our students became our teachers this week!  We had new friends with us, and our “teachers” took turns demonstrating several of the techniques they had already learned for making backgrounds.

We revisited part of the “Intuitive Watercolor” process, using a straw to blow around drops of food coloring.  The results were very cheerful and unique.

Then we did some scraping of acrylic paints, and blended some pastels.  We used some watercolors for stamping over, collaged several cards, and even stenciled gesso onto some.

There are no specific instructions for this week’s art, but you can refer back to previous weeks’ pages if you need a refresher course.

We pray that each of you will be blessed in return as you leave your Random Acts Cards in wonderfully creative places!!
